About the Teacher

I love eating, laughing, dancing, eating, laughing, reading, eating, laughing, caramel, eating, laughing, chocolate, eating, laughing, spending time with friends and family, eating, laughing, traveling, eating, laughing, candles, eating, laughing, cooking, eating, laughing, exercising, eating and laughing gift cards, eating laughing and most importantly my preschool kiddos and eating and laughing!!!

I am going into my 10th year at Hernando Elementary School!!!  I have taught Kindergarten-Resource and Inclusion, First Grade-Resource and Inclusion, and have the best...... "love what I do" position....a PreK Special Education! They keep me on my toes!  Everything from learning, making memories, laughing, dancing, and making creative messes. My favorite has to be when I call/text a parent and they say "OMG! I can't believe he/she did that!" These are the most laughable moments, well in my opinion.  LOL!

On my wall hangs my hardest, yet best, earned accomplishments:  Best Mom in the World, Chick-fil-A 2019 Teacher of the Year, Bachelor in Business, Bachelor in Education, Masters in Education, National Board Certified Teacher, and another accomplishment.....coming soon!

I absolutely love, love, love what I do!!!

Proverbs 22 New International Version (NIV)

A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold.

Welcome to HES Prek!

Our class is a preschool special education class for children ages 3-5. All of our kiddos have demonstrated significant delays in two or more areas of development or some type of disability and therefore require special education to meet their developmental milestones. Our goal is to provide each kiddo with the foundation and skills needed to be successful in life. We work hard to prepare them for their Kindergarten year and want to ensure their transition is as smooth as possible.  Our classroom is structured, educational, and of course FUN!

The classes are split up by age/grade levels. The morning is being prepared for Kindergarten. We use a research based curriculum that includes a monthly theme that is broken down by the week to include new concept words, stories, poems, math, and literacy skills required for success in Kindergarten. Each new concept is designed to meet them where they are and fit the individual level for adaptation.  It brings me great pleasure when they excel in learning.

The afternoon group is the youngest group. We focus on a letter, color, and number each week.  We use a research based curriculum that includes a monthly theme, book, and nursery rhyme. This is typically a smaller group focusing on functional skills needed in the school setting to include appropriate behaviors in the classroom environment. It gives me great pleasure to assist them and watch them grow.

I enjoy the energy and enthusiasm of these kiddos!!!

I absolutely love, love, love what I do!!!

Proverbs 22:6 New International Version (NIV)

Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.

If you would like to have your child tested for our program, please contact Carla Respess, coordinator of preschool for DeSoto County Schools. 662-449-7257 Carla Respess.

Brie Glidewell is my wonderful teaching partner in the classroom.  I hesitate to call her my assistant because she goes above and beyond to ensure your kiddo has a great learning experience.  She loves your kiddos so much.  She is a great person and I would never imagine doing this without her.
